Two night stand

Two_night_standAnother film that I happened upon on TV and decided to watch was Two Night Stand.

It is the story of two single people Alec and Megan, that meet through one of the online dating services and end up having a maxresdefault
one night stand in Alec’s house. In the morning there is a terrible blizzard and Megan is trapped in his house so they have to spend the whole day together, but things go a bit off so it is not as friendly as it was previously. But when night came they make up and  have the second night stand.

Have you ever watched something that was so bad but you couldn’t stop watching it? The performances are so bad, especially the girl’s, that they are unforgettable and for the rest eg. music, plot there is no space for talking about it in this blog.

Spy2015_TeaserPosterLast night I watched Spy a comedy/parody of spy thrillers and James Bond movies.

Susan Cooper is a CIA agent who has never been out on a mission. She has always been the eyes and ears of her colleague and loveSpy-movie-review-melissa-mccarthy-jude-law
interest agent Fine. When Fine is killed in action and a lot of field agents have been compromised, she decides to leave her desk, catch the villain and avenge her colleague’s death.

It is a parody of spy films that takes us around the globe and it is quite funny. I have always loved films that show us action in various famous locations and aren’t only in a studio. Susan is a funny spy as her general appearance is very far from what we are used to seeing in spies and spy heroines; it is also her asset as the villain doesn’t see her coming. It is a well made film that is quite enjoyable to watch.

American Ultra

American_Ultra_posterLast night as I turned on the TV there was American Ultra on, so more out of boredom than interest I watched it.

Mike is a young guy that works in a third rate cash n carry and he is very much in love with Phoebe, his girlfriend. He seems to lead a pretty uneventful life when all of a sudden two guys come
american-ultra-gogg to kill him. He manages to kill them professionally and swiftly using as a weapon only a spoon! And he can’t explain why. When CIA agent Lasseter appears things become a bit clearer.

It’s a fast paced action film/comedy/parody that it’s quite easy to watch and since the title doesn’t give much away I didn’t know what to expect; which was an interesting surprise. I’ll probably never watch it again, but it is not so bad to watch once.

Love, Rosie

love__rosie__2015____movie_poster_by_blantonl98-d8gtc68Last night I watched a romantic film that I hadn’t heard anything about. It is called Love, Rosie.

Rosie and Alex met when they were 5 years old and living in the same street they have been the closest and best of friends ever since. But growing into adults started to complicate their Love-Rosie
relationship and friendship. Just when they decide to leave their home town and go to college life steps in and changes their plans putting a great distance between them.

It is based on a book called Where Rainbows End by Cecilia Ahern which I had never read. The film is quite nice as it is quite funny at times with weird situations that seem a bit too much; but as we know weird situations can happen to anyone any day. I loved the music when they went clubbing as it reminded me of my youth. It is sweet and interesting to watch and makes you think of how absolute and innocent first love can be.

film-bridesmaidsLast night I finally watched the film Bridesmaids which was in my ‘to watch’ list for quite some time.

When Lillian gets engaged to be married her long time friend 91AekcUuy+L._SL1500_Annie is going to be her maid of honor and a new circle of friends will be her bridesmaids. Although Annie is happy for her friend, her personal life is far from satisfactory and she feels a total failure. Through her own disappointments she can’t see how she is ruining her friend’s wedding preparations and a lot of things don’t go according to her plans.

Somewhere I had heard that it was supposed to be the female equivalent of The Hangover so I expected something funny, but as I remember it The Hangover was much funnier. It was an ok film to spend the evening, but I didn’t relate to any of the characters and didn’t laugh as much as I expected.

entpostnewLast night I watched the film Entourage and I have to say it is highly entertaining.

We see the process of making a movie from a marketing point of view and not the actual making, and an inside view of
how people live in Hollywood. Vince Chase is entourage-beerthe film star and because he has close friends and family working with him the press call them his entourage.

It seems to show us a glimpse of Hollywood’s life from the inside as many times they occasionally met various stars on the street or in a restaurant or at the therapist. I really enjoyed the balance of hysteria and stress; Ari Gold that is trying to find funding for the film being always stressed and angry, while Vince that is spending the money is as cool as a cat. I have never watched the series which was very popular, but the film is quite funny at times and highly entertaining.

Second_Best_posterLast night I watched The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. After the first film, for some reason, I thought I would be disappointed. Luckily I was wrong and it was really a joy.

We see the same characters as they are happily settled in their exotic habitat and continue with their new lives. pg-28-oldie-filmsSonny is trying to find investors so that he will expand to the Second Best Exotic … and at the same time prepare for his wedding. After some coming and going and various funny events there is a happy ending for everyone.

Thanks to the amazing casting of this film, it makes it worth our while. They can be really funny without even speaking. The beautiful and vibrant pictures of India make you feel like you are travelling there and it makes you wish you were there.

It is worth watching and it is going to make for a relaxing evening.

Kingsman_The_Secret_Service_posterThe year started really well moviewise as I finally watched Kingsman: the Secret Service. This was a film that I had heard nothing about but as soon as it was released eveyone talked about it and how good it was. Naturally I wanted to watch it.

Kingsman is a secret independent international organisationKingsman-Secret-Service-Group
founded by the rich aristocrats of Europe that wanted to do good in the big unfair world. Since the aristocrats were not as brave as they used to be they needed to recruit more common people, and here is wheren Eggsy comes in. A brilliant kid that wasn’t raised with silver spoons and whose life had started sinking deeper and deeper into the gutter after his father’s death, who had died for the Secret Service.

It is a witty and fast paced spy film with style which reminded me of old Bond films with more humour. I loved the villain, his plan, the dress style in the film; it has a lot of twists and turns and I hope there will be a sequel soon enough. I will definitely watch it again as it is great fun.

Last night I watched Focus, an adventure/drama/comedy about con artists.

Nicky is a con man of the highest calibre. He has a whole network of criminals, thieves and con artists that work for him and with him. When one night Jess lands on his table trying to con him, a new partnership is formed.

Watching films like these is always a relaxing way of passing the time. It is a fast pacing film with great photography, quick dialogues and even quicker action (especially when they all work together like the scene in the street). My mistake was that I tried so hard to be focused, as the title goes, not to miss anything and foresee any trick that in the end I wasn’t so surprised. Not that I was able to really guess how it would end.

It didn’t become my favourite film, but it is a film that doesn’t make you think so it is just fine for a relaxing Saturday night.

Irrational Man

Irrational_Man_(film)_posterLast night we went to the cinema and watched the Irrational Man, the most recent Woody Allen film.

It is a drama/comedy where Abe is the new philosophy college professor whose reputation precedes him. He is the hot subject of conversation between the students and the faculty. Jill screen-shot-2015-04-30-at-11.02.30-amtoo, can’t wait to meet him and take his class. After attending his classes Jill and Abe start to talk and hang out together. Until one day they overhear a lady complaining about a judge and how his decision would affect her and her children, and an idea forms in Abe’s head to take matters in his own hands…

It is an interesting film that again examines how much of our lives is chance and how much is based on planned decisions. We need to make decisions every day about a million different things and then deal with chance meetings and other random decisions; what we’ll have for lunch, where we will spend our honeymoon or what gift we will get from the amusement park when we manage to shoot the target. These small decisions affect our lives more than we can imagine and set in motion various other incidents. And this happens every single day!
